Skin Care Sundays: Lockdown Loves

Sunday, 14 June 2020

When lockdown kicked off, everyones skin seemed to simultaneously go into melt down. We all went from a religious routine of skincare and makeup layered on perfectly, to not being completely sure if we'd showered today or not.

My skin was already in a bit of a state pre lockdown - I blame too many layers of thick makeup under stage lights all day, and not enough sleep! - so I was kind of glad for a good excuse to let my skin go au natural for a week or two (pha! if only it was a week or two!). I continued the same routine I'd been previously been using, and if anything my skin got worse *sob* my diet had changed, my sleeping pattern was none existent and my anxiety had started to rear its ugly little head. So I did, what I always do when my skin try to tip me over the edge; have a little cry, raid the treat cupboard and sulk for the day. Then I take to the skincare draw and see what goodies I can find.

I stripped my products right back, literally using an oil and a moisturiser am and pm. The oil I opted for the was the BYBI CBD Booster, and some proper old school Astral cream. This was a huge success at first, and really helped to settle my breakout and get some much needed moisture into my parched skin, but soon my skin just became over congested and that produced its own fresh batch of spots. So stopped using them, took to the internet and found some products to sort all my problems out...for now at least. so I thought I'd take you through my two lockdown loves...

The first thing I purchased was the Paulas Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. I brought this in a travel size, as it was quite pricey and I didn't want to risk it not working and being poor, but its still quite a good size. You only need a few drops of this, so even though I have the small bottle, it will last me a good while. When I first swept it across my face, I did notice a small amount of stinging but nothing too abnormal for an acid and nothing too strong. The next morning, my skin was noticeably different. my pores were smaller, my lumps and and bumps seemed to have gone down and my redness was defiantly reduced. After only a few nights worth of use, my skin was glowing and people were complimenting it, which has never happened in my life. Ever. This is now most defiantly going to be a permanent fixture to my routine, and I would definitely recommend it if your skin is struggling with congestion!!

My second was something I have actually used for a while but had run out of. The Ordinary Peeling solution has been a long time staple in my skincare routine. I tend to do it once a week as my skin is super sensitive, but I do find even just once is enough to have a positive effect on the old face. My skin always feels so fresh and soft after using it, and similar to the exfoliant, its strong enough that you know something good is happening, but also gentle enough that it doesn't irritate my skin.

Even just the addition of these two things into my routine has massively helped the appearance of my skin, and has given my some much needed confidence and that can only be a good thing!

I'd love to hear your recommendations on your current faves, so please share them below or head over to my insta and send me a DM.

Thanks for reading,
Rosie xx
