Night Night, Sleep Tight - Getting A Good Nights Sleep

Being asleep is my favourite thing. Being in bed is my happy place. Getting to sleep is the bane of my life. Considering I love everything about bed time, I find physically getting to sleep, one of the hardest tasks of the day. Ahh the irony.
I’ve always struggled with sleeping, when I was younger, getting to sleep was the easy part, staying asleep was the problem. But as I’ve got older, with so much surrounding us in our lives to stimulate my mind, I find switching off and winding down super hard. (Staying asleep is also a struggle, but let’s cross our bridge at a time).

Over time, I’ve tried and tested many different strategies to send me to the land of nod, from meditation to teas, but these few are ones I’ve found helpful, so I hope they help you too!!

Bath Time

My mom is a firm believer that a bath fixes And solves everything. Sad? Have a bath. in pain? Have a bath. Fat? Have a bath. Tired? You guessed it. Have a bath.
I find this one only really helps me in the winter, I don’t know if that’s psychological or because I end up sweating to death in the summer, but on a cold dark night, baths really help. I like to use the Lush Twilight bath bomb and light some candles, listen to some soothing music... (or the sweet sounds of the gossip girl theme tune on Netflix...) I always feel more relaxed and sleepy and ready to have a good sleep.

Lotions And Potions

If you don’t like the smell of lavender, abort this mission here! If you like the smell then stay with me. This Works pillow spray and roller is probably one of the best products I have ever found to help me doze off. It’s calming and you can almost feel your body relax when you breath in the subtle fragrance. I top it off with the legendary Sleepfrom lush. This is s smooth body cream that I use on my chest arms and hands. It does nothing for moisturising, but when paired with the this works duo, works wonders for helping me slip off.

Crack A Spine

This year I set myself a goal of reading more. In my everyday life, I don’t have much free time to sit down and properly invest in a book, so I like to do it before bed. I usually opt for happy go lucky stories, as my imagination goes wild, but I’ve definitely found once I’m warm and cosy and smelling like a  lavender garden, reading a book really helps me wind down and puts me in the perfect place for sleep.

Put Ya Phone Down

As much as we all don't want to admit it, we're all addicted to our mobile phones. Social Media both rules and ruins our lives, and we all end up with one stealthy thumb which can scroll for hours. So putting it down at night can sometimes be way easier said than done. Now I won't sit here and pretend I can do this every night, FAR FROM IT! But I do try. Try being the optimum word here. With following a bit of a night time regime, I try to be getting ready for bed by 10 (I know that's probably quite early for most of you, but I'm a sleep girl!) so I try to get of Insta and send my final Whatsapps around then. Then I do my skincare routine and get into bed, attempting to resist the urge not to pick it back up again! I know people suggest to keep it out of reach or in another room, but I don't have a clock in my room as I need it to be dead quiet and pitch black, so I keep it on my bed side so I can check the time in the night. On the rare nights I actually succeed with this, I defiantly wind down and fall to sleep quicker, on the nights I don't, I really notice a difference. some times I'm fine, or sometimes its 2:30am on a Wednesday morning and I'm sitting here writing this... speaks for its self!

I could ramble on about sleep for hours, but I'll save you all that delight for another time and wrap this up here. I hope some of these little tricks have been useful and I would love to hear any recommendations you have, us sleepy gals got to stick together!
