A Festive Face of Makeup

Sunday, 15 December 2019

With the amount of makeup I have to wear every day at work, when I'm not on stage, I tend to just leave my skin to fly solo. This is partly due to laziness,  and partly to give it time to breath. But it also means when I'm dressing up for an occasion, I can actually enjoy applying and playing around with my makeup and not just be slapping  the same thing on at the 5 minute call. Though I'd love to think I'm quite the makeup artist, reality is, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, so having a simple but effect look is always my main aim. My current Festive Face is exactly that. A glowy look with a sassy red lip.
Once I've applied my skincare routine, I tend to start with the L'Oreal Paris Infallible Luminising Primer. This is a really light weight but beautifully pearlescent primer, that really brings a lovely natural glow to the skin without feeling greasy. For my base, I've really been enjoying the IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream. Apart from the light, but breathable coverage, it also has SPF 50, which for someone who tries, but never really gets on with SFP is an absolute god send. Its rich and creamy but still incredibly light. I tend to squeeze a pump onto the back of my hand, and using my beauty sponge, blend it across my face, building in areas I need it most (always my pals; the dark circles that have a permanent residence under my eyes) I top up any areas I need a bit more coverage on, with the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. I have used this concealer since I can remember, and whenever I stray and my eyes start to wonder down the sparkly makeup isles, I always come crawling back to this little staple and beg for forgiveness. The coverage is amazing and isn't at all cakey, and at £3.99, I'd be a fool to let this one go!
Ever since I heard of Charlotte Tilbury, I'd had my eye on the Instant Look in a Pallet, Pallet. It has everything you need for a day to night look and means you need 4 less pallets in your makeup bag! I recently got one for my birthday, and let me tell you, I am smitten. The bronzer and blushes are the perfect warming tones, that can be lightly applied for a 'just stepped outside into the cold winter air' kind of blush, right through to a stunning night out look. The eye colours that come in are so beautifully pigmented, meaning you hardly need any on your brush and fall out is basically none existent! There are 3 colours included in the pallet and though they've ordered in the way Charlotte recommends, you can really play with them to create a look you love. I've been loving sweeping the bronzer over my lids for a quick day look, before adding a shimmery shade to bring the festive feel.
The highlight is, in my opinion, similar to the Becca Champagne Pop Highlight, very warm and golden, but subtle, adding just the right amount of glow, without looking like a disco ball. Which is a look no one wants, but lets not all lie and pretend is something we've all never done to ourselves once or twice... I always struggle with mascara, I can never seem to find the right one for me, but this L'Oreal caster Oil Enriched Paradise Volumising Mascara is currently doing not too bad a job. I was a bit worried at first that it might be a bit clumpy and give me the spider leg lashes that creep me out, but I was shocked to find that a little goes a long way. It took me a bit of time to work this one out, but this is definitely a less is more, to buildable, kind of product.
My final step of this look is always my favourite. I only ever tend to wear a red lip  at Christmas and look forward to finding my perfect one each year. This year has seen the arrival of the Maybelline Superstay Ink Crayon. My favourite being Hustle in Heels. This is a rich post box red, that is richly pigmented and is applied Matte. the crayon its self is soft but is also so easy to apply, making the whole staying inside the lines game, much easier. I usually tend tp stay well away from any from of Matte lip, but this one, I love. it doesn't dry my lips or cause flakiness, and is still in place even after a  three course meal, something I think is essential in the party season if, like me, your partial to stuffing your face!

I hope this has given you some ideas for your festive face this year, and I'd love to hear what your current favourites are. let me know in the comments below!

Thank you for ready, and Merry Christmas,
Rosie xx
